“I love doing the things not everyone gets to do, and meeting with people who can change my life in a big way.”
Welcome Jordan! Tell us about your business…
My business is Molding Box (www.moldingbox.com). There are a bunch of different sites we run, but Molding Box is the main one — and it is awesome!
Why did you become a member of Maverick1000 and why are you a good fit for the group?
I like what Maverick stands for. I have met several of the other Mavericks, and was always impressed by who they were and what they have done. I am a good fit because I’m super cool and can drink like a fish. Hopefully I can also add to the brain trust that has already been established.
What top things would you like to gain / learn / do with other Mavericks, and what unique value do you bring to the group?
My “gain” would be friends and experiences. My “learn” would be how to better run my company — and the “do” is just about anything. I would love to come along for an adventure one of these days. One of my unique values is that I have a company that isn’t Internet-based. I have a bunch of employees and infrastructure, so know how to manage that.
What interests, activities or hobbies do you enjoy?
I love doing the things not everyone gets to do, and meeting with people who can change my life in a big way. Also my family is a big interest of mine 😉
What are the top adventures / things on your Big Life List now?
Go to Antarctica, become friends with Bill Gates (and be able to reach out to him any time), and fly a jet fighter.
What’s the most “Maverick” thing you’ve ever done?
Business-wise: I started my company with nothing to my name, in my parents’ basement. Adventure-wise, a few for sure — traveling Russia, SE Asia, Europe, and most recently: Kayaking in Canada.
What’s the most significant / important contribution you’ve made to a community or nonprofit organization?
We actively support around 4 – 5 nonprofits. We also hire a lot of ex-cons, who are some of our greatest workers. Because we give them a job, the re-offend rate drops from around the 80% to less than 5%.
Which books, authors or programs have been a powerful influence in your business and life?
Malcom Gladwell’s stuff is good to great — Selling the Invisible. I also went to LEAD by the Charfen Institute, which was pretty good.
What’s the weirdest skill, quirk or stupid human trick you’re known for? (C’mon, we’re gonna find out anyway.)
I can ballroom dance really well.

Steve Martel, Maverick1000 Member #161 – Ottowa, Ontario – Canada
“I believe anybody can do whatever they want if they think the same way I do – which is basically at a 3-year old level…”
Welcome Steve! Tell us about your business…
I basically operate multiple companies. Right now they all stand around the Real Estate business, but I do not want to be known as the “Real Estate guy.” I like to think of myself as an Opportunity Guy: I see an opportunity, I create systems around them until I can back out, and have other people manage them while I work on a new venture — and at the same time I educate people to duplicate my results. I believe I am no more special than anyone else, and anybody can do whatever they want if they think the same way I do – which is basically at a 3-year old level.
Why did you become a member of Maverick1000 and why are you a good fit for the group?
I became a Maverick a couple of months ago after I met with a few people who were Mavericks, and found they were like-minded people – just everyday people, who make a lot of money and do some great things for the world. I just thought I would be a great fit… cool people who like to have fun and help out people at the same time.
What top things would you like to gain / learn / do with other Mavericks, and what unique value do you bring to the group?
I bring time discipline to the table. I find a lot of people micro-manage their companies, and I think if you find the right people and trust them—and have them on the right projects—the company runs smoother. Plus I get to spend more time hanging out with my family. I came from a background where I saw extreme micro-managing, so now it might actually be to a point where I don’t manage enough. My staff sometimes cares more about certain projects than I do.
What interests, activities or hobbies do you enjoy?
I love to spend time with my family. I fell in love with boating last year, and surfing behind my boat. I love snowboarding, skiing, and having fun. Just being down to earth.
What are the top adventures / things on your Big Life List now?
Skinning dipping with Pamela Anderson – no wait, that’s too old school. (I watched Baywatch.) I definitely want to skydive, which I’m hoping to do this fall. A safari would be fun – I want to be chased by a lion and survive. Baja racing was on my list, but I did that just recently. I go with the flow, so whatever pops in my mind really.
What’s the most significant / important contribution you’ve made to a community or nonprofit organization?
I don’t really like to talk about my charity work. In essence though, because I am in the Real Estate business, I do build homes in Haiti. We joined an organization that was doing it, and now we are doing it on our own because… we like to run things. We are getting more people on board as time goes on as well.
Which books, authors or programs have been a powerful influence in your business and life?
If you are terrified of thinking big, I love Art of the Deal by Donald Trump. Not a big fan of Donald Trump, but his book was amazing.
How to Win friends and Influence People is another good one, because it teaches you how to have genuine conversations with people. You walk out of a room with everyone thinking you are the smartest person in the world, without saying a freaking word.
Think Big and Grow Rich was one of my favorites back in the day. Mind you, I was angry I couldn’t figure out what the secret was in the damn book, until I read it about six times.
What’s the weirdest skill, quirk or stupid human trick you’re known for? (C’mon, we’re gonna find out anyway.)
I’ve been practicing my butt off playing quarters so that I can beat Yanik. Aside from that, I can make a “water drip” sound from my mouth with my fingers. Also, I like to hang around in my boxers or be naked. Just cause.

What’s the weirdest skill, quirk or stupid human trick you’re known for? (C’mon, we’re gonna find out anyway.)
At another time, I could effectively snort dental floss up my nose and pull it out of my mouth. I stopped after using mint floss.

Roger Hamilton, Maverick1000 Member #166 – Bali, Indonesia
“I became a member because I love connecting with entrepreneurs I can learn from, and believe in giving more than getting.”
Welcome Roger! Tell us about your businesses…
Wealth Dynamics: www.wdprofiletest.com
I created the Wealth Dynamics profiling system, which is used by about 80,000 people around the world. This is the English version of the test, which helps entrepreneurs find their flow.
Green School: www.greenschool.org
I’m Chairman of Green School, which is changing the way children are educated — by nature, for nature. It’s based in Bali, but most families have come from around the world to be here.
Fast Forward: www.fastforwardyourbusiness.net
My fascination with where the future is heading led to my “Fast Forward tour,” which I’m coming to LA and Miami for this week [June 16th and 19th, 2012!]. This site also has a link to videos and a recording of my recent webinar with Yanik.
Why did you become a member of Maverick1000 and why are you a good fit for the group?
A great friend connected me with Yanik; and from Yanik, I learned about Maverick1000. I became a member because I love connecting with entrepreneurs I can learn from, and believe in giving more than getting. Hopefully that also makes me a good fit.
What top things would you like to gain / learn / do with other Mavericks, and what unique value do you bring to the group?
Fun stuff! I’m interested in learning about things that are working / not working for people. As far as unique value: I’m based in Bali, and spend most of my time with people in Australia, Asia, and Africa. So I bring a different perspective and set of experiences on things.
What interests, activities or hobbies do you enjoy?
The extreme future, the extreme past, social entrepreneurship, education, family, kite boarding, diving, biking… things that disrupt for the better.
What are the top adventures / things on your Big Life List now?
A trip to Machu Picchu / Chichen Itza (this June!), seeing my children survive the coming zombie apocalypse (topic of dinner conversation last night), and a weekend on the moon.
What’s the most “Maverick” thing you’ve ever done?
Jumping out of a plane in New Zealand, on the way from one seminar to another — a spur of the moment decision as we drove by the airfield and saw the sky diving sign. I had no change of clothes, so I jumped in my suit and dress shoes.
Either that, or asking my wife to marry me 25 years ago, after we had just split up. Actually, the second one was more Maverick.
What’s the most significant / important contribution you’ve made to a community or nonprofit organization?
I set up XL Nation (http://xlnation.net/) as a social entrepreneur network, which has led to several hundred social enterprises being launched in different parts of the world. It led to an award from Bill Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative. But that would probably be trumped now by the progress we’re having with the Green School, which is impacting the future of education. The school has no walls; the kids have hands-on learning, and start their own businesses and social projects while in school. Here’s a video my daughter put together, “A World Without Walls,” which sums up the school: http://youtu.be/bEuwqmf1SDc
Which books, authors or programs have been a powerful influence in your business and life?
- Social Business and the Future of Capitalism, by Muhammad Yunus
- The Hero With a Thousand Faces, by Joseph Campbell
- Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tse
- I Ching, translated by Richard Wilhelm
- The Singularity is Near, by Ray Kurzweil
- Abundance, by Peter Diamandis
What’s the weirdest skill, quirk or stupid human trick you’re known for? (C’mon, we’re gonna find out anyway.)
Incredible card tricks, that consistently go wrong in the most tragic ways.
