Sabering & Swordfights, Maverick Muppet Encounters, Mastermind Multipliers… and WHOSE faces on the Times Square Billboard?!
What happened in New York last May? Sophia, our Maverick Matroyshka and Events Specialist, shares just enough details to whet your appetite for the next series in Austin, TX. (Be sure to SAVE the dates for Oct. 1 – 3!)

Picture this:
40 powerhouse entrepreneurs.
One penthouse suite, in Manhattan’s “Ink48 Hotel,”with panoramic views of the city and the Hudson River…
You, dear Maverick, are greeted at the door by a sword fighter dressed in full regalia, who informs you that you must sign a waiver to enter. For either blood or Champagne will be spilled tonight…
Once you’ve signed your life away, you’re ushered to the open bar, from which drinks will flow all night long…
Next up is a feast of steak, fish, chicken and more, to get everyone fueled for the fight…
… And thus begins the “sabering” of Champagne bottles, plus high-action (and/or comedy) fencing duels with your fellow Mavericks and guests.
Meanwhile, as swords and bubbles fly, you’re raising money for the NFTE (Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship) (Total funds raised still TBD)
Our Matroyshka reports:
“There were some very good matches! Mavericks #100 William Lee and #104 Shelby had been talking smack on the Maverick Facebook wall for about a week prior, in the hopes that the name of the event meant there would in fact be actual sword fighting. Will won—but Shelby blamed his Asian-ness… LOL.
Shelby and guest Jessica Ortner were selected for the final duel—and Shelby won a really nice Champagne saber. Jessica won a bottle of Perrier Jouet… and they chose to saber it right there, and then and share with friends!”

The Maverick Multiplier Day
(You know these, right? Maverick Multiplier Days are an awesome NEW benefit — included as part of your Maverick1000 membership.)
On the New York Maverick Multiplier Day, 30 big-mind Mavericks and MEGAmind members came together, along with Guest Speaker Oren Klaff, Author of the book, Pitch Anything. The response was fantastic, and the group got to discuss a broad range of business topics — including every person’s current challenges, and the challenges they would like help with from other like-minded powerhouses.
Plus, there was the opportunity to impact and inspire two “Young Entrepreneur” start-ups, who came talk about their businesses, and get advice from the Mavericks.
One young entrepreneur was Steve Szaronos, with Bespokepost.com, a monthly subscription service for men to receive a “Box of Awesome” each month (a.k.a.: “The world’s coolest brands [and] best products you’ve never heard of.”]
Also, young entrepreneurs Bruce and Glen presented to the group, who were, according to Sophia: “OH MY entertaining. They’re twins—think “In Living Color”… in the fashion world. Their site is: http://bruceglen.com

And WHOSE Faces on the Times Square Billboard?
The Winners of the Maverick “New York New York Referral Contest” last March were…. Maverick1000 Members #139 Jason Katzenback in 1st place; #17 Mike Hill, #162 Paul Hoffman, #149 Glen Ledwell… and the Infusionsoft gang!
Sophia reports:
“It was really exciting to see your face and business on a billboard in Times Square! There were cameras set up… we even got to meet Spongebob. Ha!”
And of course…
The Maverick VIP Broadway Experience with “Avenue Q”
(… plus the Maverick karaoke “after” show.)
“Awesome show, SUPER funny! We had the VIP experience lined up for the Maverick group — car service, 4th row seats, plus we got to meet some of the cast and check out the set after the show… and meet the Bad Idea Bears. (Which, by the way, are all Yanik and my favorite puppets… and our secret identities. Ha!)
Everyone loved it! We got to take pics with the puppets — and you would have thought we were getting photos with some big celebrities or something, we were all so excited. Plus, everyone got a little take awayAvenue Q gift.
Karaoke ensued after the show… and we have video to prove it! The WHOLE group got on stage, and sang “I Will Survive” with Natalie Ledwell… and there were a few other Maverick “perfomances” as well. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to see Boris Yankovich perform (aka: Yanik’s mystical cousin who only comes out at night… on stage), but we are hopeful he will make an appearance at the next gathering.”
[Editor’s Note: So… reportedly there is “video evidence” of this all-hands-on-deck karaoke night. Where, oh Miss Matroyshka, may we find this? EVIDENCE or it didn’t happen! 😉]
