Haiti Ripple Effect and 2012 Update!
From Doug Doebler, M1000 Member #35
Thought you’d all like to see this: Scott Marlow — M1000 Member #98 who was with us in Haiti with us last year — sponsored a water tower with Scott Bonnell and Hope to Haiti in Gonaives. Very nice! Some fruits of our labor!
Also… Yanik Silver, Frank McKinney and I want to once again thank you for your participation in the Maverick 2011 Haiti Impact Trip. Please check out this link for photos of the completed homes we funded; and other Maverick impacts in Haiti.
The 2012 Haiti Impact trip is planned for February 8-11, 2012. Eight of the twenty five spots have already been spoken for. I can send you an invite email soon — or feel free to call or email me now to secure your spot for this year’s Haiti trip.
Thanks!

Village Enterprise: Feeling the Maverick IMPACT
A letter from Dianne Calvi, President & CEO, Village Enterprise Fund…
July 27, 2011
Hello Yanik,
I hope that you are having a great summer. Over the past 8 months since I started with Village Enterprise, we have made significant progress in the field and the US office. Attached is a copy of our 5 Year Strategic Plan that we finalized in the Spring. In addition to completing our strategic plan, we also launched a fellowship program in the field (three fellows were hired), launched our Savings Program, conducted a feasibility study to expand our value chain development work, began working on a comprehensive Measurement and Evaluation (M&E) plan, and completely redesigned our web site (www.villageenterprise.org)
To give our donors an idea of all that has been accomplished, we created this short video I thought I would share with you and all the Mavericks. I wanted to follow up and give you this update, as a generous donor to our organization.
Thank you for all that you have done to support our efforts! We have so appreciated the partnership with the Mavericks.
All the best,
Dianne
Chris, Yanik & Friends Light the Night (and the Grill) for Leukemia & Lymphoma
from Chris Zavadowski, M1000 Member #4
Based on what I raised last year, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society invited me to part of the National Capital Area’s Leadership Team for all the fundraiser walks happening in the area. In addition to doing that, I hosted my own family/friends team.
M1000 Member #100 Will Lee came down from NYC… but he didn’t check the weather forecast at all, so he brought holes with shoes, an undershirt and jeans! I had to take him shopping the morning of the walk. Also, M1000 Member #132 Adam Summers brought his daughter down; and both plan to do more fundraising for the team before the year ends. And — we even had a Maverick Business Insider member, Amy Palmer, come too!
Our team page is www.TeamZavadowski.com — and you can read my personal story there. My Dad had to undergo experimental treatments 3 years ago, because the type of cancer he had is so rare and aggressive, there isn’t a standard treatment yet. Which means supporting cancer research is super important because it literally saved his life. My Mom is also a 9-year breast cancer survivor.
So far we’ve raised OVER $15,000 (they still haven’t posted the funds from the Benihana night) — and we’re hoping to hit 20K by end of the year. A LOT of Mavericks have donated this year — but if you haven’t yet, please check out my team page to make a donation with HUGE impact… which saves lives like my Dad’s.
In addition to the walk (which we — complete with an airhorn, glow jewelry, LED necklaces and a secret stash of “adult beverages” — were the #1 fundraising team at), we also did a “Benihana Celebrity Chef” night…
I roped Yanik in and we both went to training. Then, we each hosted a table of our friends, and had them come pay to have us cook/perform and to support the team. We raised about $1,000 just from that night alone.
And — I along with my Dad were also invited to be part of the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s inaugural year of their “Ambassador” program. (A separate group from LLS.) We both went through training up in NYC right before the walk! A great month of great friends, fundraising, food and impact!
