Defining your Bink Moment
With Rick Martinez – Maverick #250
“A BINK is one of those pivotal moments in life that opens the door to what’s next. It’s an opportunity to align with your life’s purpose.”
After my first conversation with Rick Martinez I knew there was something uniquely profound about him. As the Maverick Community Commando I get the pleasure of welcoming new members and showing them the ropes of Maverick. Being genuinely cool and upbeat is a common personality trait of all Maverick members (which is why I love them so much). But over the course of our conversation Rick took being “totally cool” to an entirely new level. What struck me the most about him was the sense of peace and contentment that bled through his approachable and humble persona. Rick is the real deal and is about to take the world by storm with his new company Project Bink. I had the opportunity to interview Rick about the inspiration behind Project Bink and his newly published book. Check out what he had to say below.
What planted the seed of Bink in your heart? What inspired you to create it?
The idea behind Project Bink did not come to me in an elegant fashion. It was born out of a weight lifting accident that dramatically changed my life. This experience taught me that we all experience those life altering and defining moments, and that it’s up to us to how we react to them. We all find ourselves in life places where we ask”Why? What could this possibly mean?” Most Bink moments reveal themselves in the face of adversity, and it’s up to us to decide whether they are empowering or un-empowering.
How has Project Bink changed your life personally?
I’ve always considered myself to be a happy and optimistic person. My Bink moment amplified these traits in me. I realized that it’s actually quite easy for a person to be happy. That is, until life throws you a curve ball. Then the question is, how authentic is that happiness, and what does it stem from? My Bink moment brought clarity to my life, and it challenged me to be more present for the people in my life.
How have you personally witnessed Bink changing the lives of others?
I look for those authentic moments where the opportunity for me to share my story presents itself. I find that once I open up to someone, they feel compelled to share their “Bink moment” with me. The result is that they feel connected to me. they are able to better recognize the things that are important in their lives. I have personally witnessed the positive effects of people sharing their Bink Moments with each other.
What would you like to see happen to Bink in the next year?
Well, I’d love to see the business continue to climb. My impact goal is reach as many people as possible and tell them that finding their purpose and meaning in life does not have to take so long. That by identifying and then sharing their Bink Moments, they can mindfully start living that purpose out. I’d also like to develop a Bink course or method that would be easy to share online with the masses.
You just published your first ebook. Can you tell us a little bit about it?
The title of my book is The Power of Bink. It helps the reader find their purpose in 4 easy steps. Through these 4 steps I challenge my readers to focus on the here and now. To stop trying to find their purpose and start living in the moment. There are people and opportunities right in front of us that are oozing with purpose. We all have opportunities and it’s up to us what we do with them.

Who is Rick Martinez?
A nurse by trade, an entrepreneur by passion, and a helper at heart.
Starting out with little in terms of money, Rick served in the Army and went on to earn a nursing degree. After a few years working in ER and trauma units he started a medical staffing company out of his apartment. From these humble beginnings, Rick would grow his company into a multi-million dollar, 600-employee enterprise that served the federal government and military hospitals, sending nurses and physicians wherever they were needed.
Rick’s current business, Project Bink continues a long line of inspiring work from which really stokes him. It’s all about sharing your stories and achieving your happiness. Project Bink begins with one life-changing moment and ends with you finding what you were put on this earth to do.
For fun Rick is into triathlon, cars, beer and pizza. He’s been married to Lisa for 14 years and has 3 kids: Kate (23), Kelsey (19) and Slaton (17).
Life is good.
