Maverick in the Spotlight

April 7, 2013 by Yanik

What have your fellow Maverick Members been up to?  Check out some exciting things happening in the lives of two of them below.

Matt Curry-Maverick #142-Curry’s Auto Service: Past, Present and Future

My mother always told me, “Whatever you choose to be in life…I don’t care if its digging pits…be the best pit digger you can be!”

Matt_-CEO-200x300

(Word from the editor [Rose Ayers]) Recently, I had the privilege of catching up with our very own Matt Curry; Owner/President/CEO of Curry Auto Service based out of Gainsville, Virginia.  Matt and his wife Judy were recently featured in The Washington Business Journal.  According to this article, Curry’s Auto Service is “Fast and Furious-Driven in large by new technology investments.”  Matt has some exciting stuff going down in his life right now and is excited to share his thoughts with the rest of you Mavericks.  If you are interested in reading the rest of Matt’s article in The Washington Business Journal, click here.

If you could have dinner with 3 people from the past, present or future, who would they be and why?
  1. Jesus Christ – Not only because he is historical, but I just really want to ask him: “Are you truly the Messiah?”
  2. Ronald Reagan – The guy is my hero and one of the best presidents we have had. From his role in helping tear down the Berlin Wall to being “the guy who beat communism,” he is pure awesomeness.
  3. My parents – Trust me, they are “one person”  and they have had such a big impact on my life.
If you were not doing what you are doing now (career-wise), what else would you be doing?

Well…I would either be in jail or working for someone else at a dead-end job….joking…kind of 🙂  In all honesty, I would still be an entrepreneur doing something in the auto industry.  It’s what I have done my whole life!

What is new with your company?

We just opened our 10th store two weeks ago, which means we obtained our goal!  We are projecting that we will bring in over $20M in revenue this year.  I am so grateful for this success because it has opened up so many doors and I have met so many cool people in the process.  Recently, we had the privilege of purchasing 35% of a computer development company that has designed a program that promotes better communication between us and our customers. This program will allow us to send pictures and videos of what is going on with their cars; ie brake malfunctions and oil leaks.  This process will educate our customers so that they have a full understanding of what is being done to their vehicles.

What big thing do you see happening in the future of your company? What about this..

A. Excites you?
Curry Auto Service will be the first to market ourselves as experts in the field of hybrid   repair and maintenance.
B. Scares you?
This is a big responsibility.  Not will we have to educate our customers on something new – owning and caring for a hybrid vehicle – but we will have to convince them that Hybrids are the future.  Being a hybrid is being responsible economically and environmentally   People in the US have a difficult time accepting this because so much of the American heritage is built on the motor vehicle.  There will always be a place for the Harley’s and Ford Trucks…but as the future approaches we will need to learn to conserve our energy.

“I am looking at an exciting early exit of one of my latest businesses!”

Ben Croft 2

Ben Croft is relatively new to the Maverick family and is already a force to be reckoned with.  For those of you who attended the Underground 9 Seminar, have him to thank for our Glo Gadget themed Gangnam Style video.  His infectious smile and unending positive energy will win you over within seconds.  And he has plans for his future…check out what he has to say below…..

If you could have dinner with 3 people from the past, present or future, who would they be and why?
  1. My Grandfather Eric, as I have never met him and heard from many people he was an incredible man.
  2. Houdini as he led such an interesting life.
  3. Buckminster Fuller, his teaching has had a profound impact on me.
If you were not doing what you are doing now (career-wise), what else would you be doing?

I would be doing the next project on my entrepreneurial bucket list
