This Maverick event is unlike any other…
…because the parents learn valuable insights and engage in interesting conversations about raising more independent and entrepreneurial children. And — the kids learn about business, and actually go out to sell on the streets. Plus, there are a few Maverick adventures and experiences thrown in to create family memories.
The kids divide up into teams to sell different products, and they have to figure out their packaging and promotion plans. But sometimes math is hard, as Maverick #28 Tony Ricciardi will attest to…
Though it’s not all work, as the kids and parents got to enjoy zip lining, bobsledding, and alpine slides at Olympic Park. Plus, an early morning hot air balloon ride.
There may or may not have been a group of people pouring Champagne out of the balloon to see what happens below…
July 4th, the kids hit the streets ready to sell! Here are a few of them:
One of the teams, headed up by Captain Izabella Zamora (daughter of Maverick #154 Damien Zamora) came up with the idea of using their product to get donations for the local Fire Department. There were some major brush fires this year that actually ended up canceling the fireworks that night, and Izabella’s team was dressed the part.
Their team raised nearly $1,400.00.
Pretty interesting… which led to a discussion of companies like Newman’s Own, who gives away all their profits, etc. But after they’ve paid their officers. So this ended up being a really good learning lesson for everyone.
Izabella’s even team got into the newspaper for their contribution:

Here she is giving the interview:
This is our second year doing this event with our two kids, Zack (7) and Zoe (5), and it’s been great to see how their questions, thought processes, and involvement has grown. The cool thing is that each of the teams actually made a profit this year too. Zoe has been planning what to do with her newfound profits (to download games for her iPad in the “chap” store).
We’re planning on doing another Maverick family event next summer — not sure if it’ll be for the 4th of July, so I’d love to hear your ideas, and I hope you’ll join us.
Also, lots of cool stuff happening now, with announcements for you en route! We’ve got a busy fall for Mavericks, and some RSVPs you don’t want to miss heading your way…
Hope to see you soon!
