Epic Experience: South Africa
September 11 - 19, 2016
Our journey will begin in Livingstone which was, until 2012, the capital of the Southern Province of Zambia. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to our beautiful hotel located directly on the mighty Zambezi River. Take some time to get settled and then depart for a very special welcome dinner experience.
Zambezi River/Victoria Falls
Enjoy a delicious breakfast, before an early departure for a day filled with optional activities….here are just a few that you’ll get to choose from:
White Water Rafting on the Zambezi
This trip is a mixture of river boarding and white water rafting where river boarding is done in shorter sections of the river where guests will stop at “play spots” along the way to surf, ride whirlies and “squirt” (best described as “flying underwater”).
Hailed as the wildest one-day whitewater run in the world is the Zambezi River. Rafters are in awe of this stretch of river that gets more ferocious and turbulent the lower the water level reaches. (Guess what? The wild-water season starts in June through the end of December. Right smack dab when we’ll be there!)
Bordering on Victoria Falls, you’ll feel the earth beneath you rumbling before you reach the mammoth river waiting for you. Victoria falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World laying claim to the ‘largest’ waterfall in the world due to its width of 5,600 ft and height of 360 ft, forming the largest sheet of falling water in the world.
With the Falls behind you and the river rushing below the Victoria Falls Bridge this is certainly no ordinary bungee jump. At 111 metres it is also one of the highest jumps in the world and the adrenaline rush is as wild as the river itself. There are two options: A single jump on your own or a tandem jump with a partner.
Day 3 & 4
Ulusaba Safari Experience
We will spend 2 nights at Sir Richard Branson’s Private Game Reserve, Ulusaba, one of the most exclusive game lodges in the world. Ulusaba, meaning “place of little fear” is located amid the breathtaking landscapes of Sabi Sands.
“The African Bush – just the thought of it conjures up some fascinating images of breath-taking wilderness, sunrise safaris and a retreat far away from the city. Here your imagination becomes reality… “
SIR RICHARD BRANSON
With twice daily game drives, you’ll traverse over 13,500 hectares of private reserve with your dedicated Ranger and Tracker who will tailor your game drive just for you and share their vast knowledge of the surrounding wildlife as you track the Big Five. From the moment you set out, you’ll feel the adrenaline rush as you anticipate the wildlife you may encounter just as they should be … wild. Lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, spotted hyena – they’re all there. Plus, if the weather permits, there’s a walking safari where you’ll have an opportunity to see smaller creatures that are often missed while on game vehicles. Africa is renowned for it’s incredible wildlife and you’ll get a chance to take it all in.
We’ll also spend time working with Pride ‘n Purpose, the charitable arm of Ulusaba, which was set up in partnership with Virgin Limited Edition and Virgin Unite to support disadvantaged communities living adjacent to the Sabi Sand Reserve. Pride ‘n Purpose’s main focus is on sustainable development initiatives and improving access to food, water and health services. They have established a number of projects supporting 35,000 people across six communities in the Sabi Sand Reserve.
After our final Game Drive and Breakfast, we will depart for Cape Town, known as one of the most multicultural cities in the world as well as the 10th most populous city in Africa. Upon getting settled in our beautiful hotel situated at the famous Sea Point Promenade facing the Atlantic coastline, we will depart for a truly unique and authentic South African dinner experience.
Great White Shark Diving
This morning we’ll head to Gansbaai, popularly referred to as the Great White Shark capital of the world where will take the ultimate plunge and dive with these amazing creatures. We’ll return to the hotel in the late afternoon, rest up and head out for a night on the town – Cape Town style!
Imagine coming face-to-face with one of the most unforgettable and terrifying creatures on the planet in their own environment. A close encounter with a Great White shark is something that will be indelibly imprinted in your mind forever.
You don’t have to be a certified diver to participate and 99.9% of the time there will be sharks…most of the time massive ones twice the size of grown men. Just outside Cape Town, you’ll depart from Kleinbaai, which is 2 km along the coast from the village of Gansbaai. A short 5-mile voyage to Dyer Island (also known as Shark Alley) is the spot the captain will drop anchor and being attracting Great Whites.
Our outfitter has worked with National Geographic and Discovery Channel because of their high-level of expertise. In fact, they have a specially-formulated ‘Chum’ mixture, made from completely legal ingredients, which has taken years to perfect, and is a highly-guarded trade secret.
After the chumming – the real action begins. Don’t worry, if you’re a bit cautious you will have the opportunity to photograph these awe-inspiring animals feeding at the surface, right alongside the boat.
Or, if you’re a true Maverick – this is when you enter the cage! The good news is no experience is required to go into the cage and you do not need to be a certified diver. Your safety is the utmost concern with a 12mm galvanized steel mesh; the sharks cannot get inside (and they don’t even try). The cage floats right next to the boat and is easy to access, so you can climb out at any time.
Table Mountain and Wine Lands
We’ve got another exciting day ahead…
In the morning we will get a chance to check out Table Mountain. This is a great spot to soak up the commanding 360-degree views of Cape Town, Table Bay, the nearby peaks of the surrounding mountains and the rest of the Table Mountain National Park, in which the Cableway is situated.
In the afternoon, we will head north to the Cape Town Wine Lands. Thanks to its dry, mountainous climate, the area is home to more than 300 vineyards and is one of the World’s largest wine producers. Here we will enjoy a delicious al fresco lunch in the vineyards, along with a wine pairing from the wine maker.
After a leisurely breakfast, we’ll get to enjoy a spectacular ride along the most south eastern part of the African Continent. The journey will begin along the Atlantic Coastline as we ride through Clifton and Camps Bay. Then we’ll cross the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive and wind our way down to the Cape of Good Hope and end at Boulders beach.
